Inspired by the world of Practical Magic and the fascinating folklore surrounding plants, this painting challenge invites you to paint a different plant each day from 19th–31st October.

Your finished page will become a beautiful collection of botanical illustrations featuring plants connected to witchcraft, folklore, mythology, traditional medicine and magic — with a few poisonous and deadly plants thrown in for good measure.

Each day from October 19th, I’ll release a new free watercolour tutorial on my YouTube channel, de Winton Paper co., guiding you through painting that day’s plant.

We’ll slowly fill the apothecary page together, one illustration at a time, until you have your very own finished spell-book-inspired artwork.

The challenge runs from 19th–31st October, but don’t worry if you can’t paint every day — all of the tutorials will remain available on YouTube, so you can catch up or revisit your favourites whenever you like.

THE HAND-PAINTED GRID
The page has been specially designed to look like an ancient apothecary page from a spell book, complete with decorative moonflowers and spaces for each of the 13 plants.

Once you’ve completed the challenge, you’ll have a beautiful piece of seasonal artwork that you can frame and bring out every Halloween.
